I am an Assistant Professor of Media in the Division of Social Sciences at Duke Kunshan University. My research and teaching explore how new communication technologies construct social and political changes, and how social and political powers shape and regulate the design and operation of such technologies.

My research has received recognition and support from British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), Volkswagen Foundation, The International Communication Association (ICA), Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies, and other institutions.

My studies have appeared in Policy & Internet, The International Journal of Press/Politics, Social Media + Society, New Media & Society, Journal of Communication, International Journal of Communication, Communication Research, among other peer reviewed journals.

I received Ph.D.ย in Communication from University of Michigan. I also hold a M.Sc. in Political Communication from University of Glasgow and a B.A. in Public Administration from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Prior to academia, I was a journalist in China.
